Wales is bracing for a snowy weekend, with a 'don't travel' warning in place for parts of the country. The Met Office has issued a warning for up to 10cm (4in) of snow until 11:00 GMT on Sunday, affecting Carmarthenshire, Ceredigion, Conwy, Gwynedd, Pembrokeshire, and Powys. This warning is followed by another from 12:00 on Sunday until 12:00 on Monday, predicting up to 3cm (1.2in) of snow for some areas and up to 8cm (3.1in) on high ground. North Wales Police has advised against travel in certain areas due to hazardous conditions on the A55 in Gwynedd and Anglesey, and a bus operator has suspended services. Gwynfor Coaches, which operates in Anglesey, Caernarfon, Llanberis, and Snowdonia, has also suspended services due to unsafe rural roads. The police have urged residents to avoid non-essential travel, citing issues with the A55 west of Abergwyngregyn, Gwynedd, to Anglesey, as well as the Felinheli bypass. Traffic Wales has reported road disruptions across the country, and Newport County has postponed its Sunday League Two fixture due to an unplayable pitch. The Met Office warns of heavy snow showers affecting western Wales on Sunday morning, with accumulations of 2-4cm of snow within a couple of hours and a chance of 10cm in some places. An ice warning is also in place for a large portion of Wales until noon, and another warning for snow and ice between Sunday and Monday afternoon covers most of Wales except Anglesey. These severe weather conditions highlight the importance of staying informed and taking necessary precautions to ensure safety during travel.
