Monterey residents frustrated as PG&E delays power restoration (2026)

Monterey residents are growing increasingly frustrated with the delayed power restoration by PG&E, which has now been pushed back to December 29th. This delay is impacting their holiday celebrations and daily lives. In the Monterey neighborhood, residents like Joanne White and Bonnie Thompson are expressing their disappointment, highlighting the inconvenience of not having access to basic amenities such as showers, phone charging, and even Christmas lights. White also misses her TV, garbage disposal, and heat.

Meanwhile, in Carmel, Flaherty's Seafood Grill was able to reopen on Saturday after being forced to close due to the power outages. The restaurant owner, Ken Spilfogel, expressed relief at seeing customers dining in again and pride in his team for persevering through the challenges. Only about five restaurants remained open in Carmel during the outages, including Edwin's, which continued operations using generators. Owner Jakub Kacprzynski mentioned that they helped a few businesses with generators.

Back in the Monterey neighborhood, residents continue to wait for the power to return, hoping it happens sooner rather than later. They feel that PG&E should be able to improve the situation, as power outages have become a regular occurrence in areas like Pebble Beach and Skyline Forest. The residents are growing tired of the frequent disruptions and are demanding better service from PG&E.
