High School Baseball Dreams Come True at Wrigley Field (2026)

Get ready for a thrilling doubleheader at Wrigley Field on April 12th! The Cubs will host the Pittsburgh Pirates at 1:20 p.m., followed by an exciting high school baseball game between Oak Lawn and Reavis 45 minutes after the last out. This is no ordinary high school game; it's the first time a Major League Baseball game will be followed by a high school game at Wrigley Field.

Oak Lawn coach Bill Gerny expressed his excitement, saying, "When the Cubs contacted us, it sounded like, 'this is too good to be true.'" The team is thrilled to have the opportunity to play on one of the most iconic baseball fields in the world. Reavis coach Kyle McKinley shared the same sentiment, stating, "I met with the kids and they were ecstatic. This is a life experience for them that they will cherish forever."

Both schools are responsible for selling 1,000 tickets, which will benefit both the Cubs/Pirates and Oak Lawn/Reavis games. Ticket information is yet to be announced. The game will be considered an exhibition game, lasting either seven innings or 2½ hours.

This is an active spring for both teams. Oak Lawn has a trip to Alabama in March, and Reavis is scheduled to play at the Prep Baseball Report showcase in O'Fallon, as well as a Florida trip. Cubs officials say this is the only high school game scheduled for this season so far, but they are exploring the possibility of doing it a few more times in 2026.

Officials chose Oak Lawn because they felt the school was a great choice academically and athletically. They are always looking for ways to showcase the ballpark to as many people as possible.

Gerny is eager to see his team take the field on April 12th, saying, "That's every kid's dream to stand in front of the ivy at Wrigley Field and play baseball."

But here's where it gets controversial... Some may argue that high school games don't belong at a Major League ballpark. What do you think? Will you be attending this historic doubleheader? Share your thoughts in the comments below!
