Ever since Famke Janssen graced our screens as the unforgettable Xenia Onatopp in Goldeneye, I've been a devoted fan. Her portrayal of Jean Grey in the X-Men franchise cemented her status as an icon, and let's not forget her brilliant performance in the criminally underrated Boy Kills World. Now, she's taking on a new challenge in Netflix's Amsterdam Empire, a project that's particularly special because it allows her to work in her native language and hometown. But here's where it gets controversial... some fans might argue that other actresses have portrayed Jean Grey better. What do you think?
I recently had the incredible opportunity to chat with Famke about Amsterdam Empire and reflect on some of her most memorable roles. We delved into her experience as a producer on the Netflix show and her contributions to the costume design – a fascinating glimpse behind the scenes! She also addressed the persistent rumors about a potential appearance in an upcoming Avengers movie. And this is the part most people miss... while many hope to see her return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it seems those expectations might need to be tempered. (More on that in the video!)

Amsterdam Empire plunges us into the cutthroat world of Amsterdam's coffee shop scene. Jack van Doorn, the wealthy and notorious founder of the Jackal coffee shop empire, has clawed his way to the top, battling criminals, competitors, and the Netherlands' unique legal landscape. But his empire is threatened from within. When his affair with a prominent journalist surfaces, he discovers that his most formidable enemy has been living under his own roof: his betrayed wife, Betty (played by Famke Janssen). Betty, a former pop diva, knows all of Jack's weaknesses and secrets, and she's determined to take everything he holds dear. Think of it as a Dutch Dallas meets Breaking Bad, but with coffee instead of oil or meth.
Amsterdam Empire is available to stream now on Netflix.
As a critic, I'm constantly searching for films that push boundaries and leave a lasting impact. Some of my all-time favorites include Se7en, Halloween, Scream, A Nightmare On Elm Street, Back To The Future, Battle Royale, Jaws, The Social Network, Friday the 13th, American Movie, anything by Tarantino, Scott Pilgrim vs The World, Evil Dead, The Batman, The Shining, No Country For Old Men, T2, Boyhood, Ed Wood, Jurassic Park, and Wild at Heart. I'm a big fan of horror, movies in general, writing, playing guitar, the MCU, those "so bad they're good" movies, video games (especially anything Spider-Man related), whiskey, professional wrestling, hockey, football, Star Wars, world domination, Jeopardy, and Silence.
So, what do you think? Are you excited to see Famke Janssen in Amsterdam Empire? Do you think she should return to the MCU, even in a different role? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below!
