A former Chicago Sky player, Kysre Gondrezick, has sparked a debate among WNBA fans with her recent comments. In a podcast interview, she expressed her belief that Satou Sabally, a forward for the Phoenix Mercury, possesses superior one-on-one skills compared to her former teammate, Angel Reese.
Gondrezick, who played 24 WNBA games with the Sky in 2024, averaging a modest 1.0 points per game, offered an insightful comparison between the two players. She acknowledged Reese's growth since joining the league but emphasized Sabally's fundamental soundness and polished skills.
"Angel is a powerhouse with an unstoppable motor, but I think Satou's skill set gives her an edge in one-on-one situations," Gondrezick explained.
But here's where it gets controversial... While Reese, in her second season, averaged impressive stats of 14.7 points, 12.6 rebounds, and 3.7 assists per game, the Sky still struggled to make the playoffs, finishing with the league's worst record. On the other hand, Sabally's 16.3 points and 5.9 rebounds per game last season helped the Mercury reach the WNBA Finals.
And this is the part most people miss... Gondrezick's comments come at an interesting time, as she recently made headlines for posing for Playboy magazine as their 2025 Miss June. She sees this as an opportunity to build a multi-dimensional brand, showcasing her skills both on and off the court.
"I'm not transitioning; I'm evolving. I'm creating a brand that reflects my diverse talents," she said.
Gondrezick's journey in the WNBA has been a challenging one. She played for both the Sky and the Indiana Fever but remains without a team despite considering herself an active player.
So, who do you think has the better one-on-one skills: Angel Reese or Satou Sabally? And what impact do these off-court ventures have on an athlete's career? Join the discussion and share your thoughts in the comments!
