A shocking incident has left the Ugandan media industry in a state of concern. Jehoshaphat Jones Opong, better known as DJ Jones, a renowned journalist and radio presenter, has been hospitalized after a devastating road crash.
Opong, a versatile media personality, was en route to a funeral when tragedy struck. The accident occurred along the Moroto-Nabilatuk road, just a day after he attended a regional journalists' training. Eyewitnesses described a harrowing scene, with the vehicle losing a tire before colliding with a culvert and overturning.
"The car hit a culvert, and it was a terrifying sight. Opong lost consciousness immediately," recalled Peter Nangiro, an eyewitness.
Quick-thinking Good Samaritans rushed Opong to Tokora Health Center IV, where Dr. Philip Lotee confirmed the severity of his injuries. "The initial assessment revealed neck trauma and chest injuries," Dr. Lotee stated.
DJ Jones' versatility in the media world is well-known. He has worn many hats, from sports commentator to news reporter, radio presenter, and even master of ceremonies. His involvement in the Media Challenge Initiative training just a day before the accident adds a layer of irony to this tragic event.
"It's a frightening and emotional time," shared Opong's wife, Asha Leah Apolot. "I'm putting my faith in God for his recovery. When I called his phone, someone else answered, telling me about the terrible accident. It was heart-wrenching."
